Bio
Hayden Dewar is a Naarm/Melbourne-based artist and muralist with over 20 years of experience. Primarily known for his vibrant, surreal murals, Hayden also produces imaginative studio-based paintings and illustrations. His colourful murals can be found throughout Naarm and beyond, transforming public spaces with playful, otherworldly imagery.
Drawing on formative influences from surrealism, street art and comic books,
Hayden combines real and imagined elements to tell stories and explore themes and metaphors connected to places and their inhabitants. A lot of his work reads like continuing chapters in a story about a strange world inhabited by his signature characters the “Solarquins”. These guardians of nature and seekers of harmony amidst the chaos are Hayden’s way of looking at our world sideways and providing a window into in an alternate one. A world where myth, relics of the past, nature, history and the cycle of life collide, hinting at the wonder and weirdness of life’s journey.
Hayden has completed mural projects for almost every LGA council in Naarm. His commercial clients include Tennis Australia, Victoria University, Yarra Trams, Yarra Energy Foundation, Globird Energy, AusNet Services, Dimmeys Stores, the Red Cross, ICAN and the Royal Children’s Hospital, among others.
Hayden is passionate about transforming and enhancing public spaces through murals and thrives on the positivity and public engagement that comes from letting his creativity off the leash to wander through this wild world of walls.
